42K BIKE

10K RUN

Bluestone Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon

What and where is the event?

A standard distance triathlon (1500m swim, 42k bike, 10k run) set in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park at Broad Haven, a beautiful expanse of golden sand at the soutern end of St Brides Bay. In recent years the event has hosted a stage of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series, the Welsh Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, and has been a qualifier for Tîm Tri Cymru.  The event is organised to the highest standards and is permitted by British Triathlon.

How big is it?

The field is limited to 400 competitors. Relay teams (of 2 or 3) are encouraged and very welcome – in 2024 we had 36 teams on the start line!

What is the course like?

As standard distance triathlons go, it would be fair to describe this one as challenging.  The 1500m open water sea swim is a rectangular course and never ventures more than 200m from the shoreline.  The 42k bike has over 400m of climbing, and is mainly on rural roads with some fast flat sections, especially as you head back to Broad Haven from Haverfordwest.  The first 3k of the run, which has 130m of ascent in total, takes you along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with spectacular views over St Bride’s Bay, before returning on quiet country lanes to Broad Haven and a finish on the beautiful beach front.

Course maps can be found in the Athlete Brief (2024 version).

Is it suitable for novices?

Plenty of people have made this their first ever triathlon, but it is a pretty challenging standard distance triathlon.  You need to be able to complete the swim in one hour to be allowed to start the bike, and have completed the bike in three hours (from your start time), to be allowed on to the run course.

What is the minimum age?

You need to be 17 or over on 31st December.

How much is it to enter?

£75 (individuals), £90 (relay teams)

That sounds like good value! Is everything included?

Yep! The entry fee is fully inclusive of the following:

• Booking fee
• Tyvek race number
• Silicone swim hat
• Electronic chip timing
• Organic cotton event t-shirt from howies (only for entries received by 27th June)
